Karla grew up in a household shaped by both engineering and artistry, developing an early appreciation for math and creativity. Inspired by her father, she pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering at Lakehead University. As one of only three women in her university class, Karla is passionate about encouraging more girls to explore education and careers in STEM.

Now working in the energy sector for Synergy North, Karla shares her experiences as a female engineer and speaks about the importance of curiosity, resilience, and approaching challenges with an open mind. She believes that innovation happens when technical expertise and creative thinking come together.

Her session includes a hands-on activity where students collaborate to build a simple electrical circuits and gain a practical understanding of how a typical home is powered.
